Club Rules & Culture
Strathmore Chess is a casual, welcoming club built around respect, growth, and a shared love of the game.
We meet Fridays from 6:30–8:30 PM. Some weeks we run impromptu tournaments. Other weeks are more relaxed and casual. The format may change, but the goal stays the same: enjoy chess and improve together.
Respect & Inclusion
Chess is for everyone.
Bullying, harassment, or hate toward any individual or group will not be tolerated. This club is a safe space for players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Win with humility.
Lose with grace.
Learn from both.
If someone is being disruptive, disrespectful, or creating an unsafe environment, they will be asked to leave.
A Growth Mindset
Improvement in chess requires losing. It requires mistakes. It requires honesty with yourself.
The culture we are building is one of self-improvement and mutual support. Players are encouraged to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Being competitive is welcome. Being closed off to growth or unwilling to respect others is not.
We are here to get better — together.
Youth Participation
Children are welcome and encouraged to play.
Unless a child is already comfortable and established within the club, they should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Parents are always welcome to stay and observe. We simply ask that players be allowed to think and make their own decisions during games.
Respecting the Space
We are incredibly grateful to Hob’s Gaming Café for providing us a space to meet each week.
Because they generously host us, we ask that members do not bring outside food or drinks (water is fine). If you’d like snacks or beverages, please consider purchasing from the café as a way of supporting the business that supports us.
Respecting the space helps ensure we can continue to grow.
Strathmore Chess is still young, but it’s growing quickly because people feel welcome here. From six-year-olds to retirees, this club exists to bring the community together around a timeless game.
We’re building something special.
Let’s protect it together.
